Why we recommend Viking Pool Cues

At The Billiard Warehouse, we HIGHLY recommend Viking Pool Cues.  Here are a few reasons why Viking cues have earned our highest recommendation:

1. Playability:

As a pool players, I am very concerned about the playability of the cues we sell.  I know that our customers expect excellence and Viking cues deliver!  Viking cues have a solid hit with low deflection.   The popular term on the market today is deflection. While deflection is an important characteristic of a pool cue, it is not the only aspect of a cue which should determine your choice.  Feel, Balance, Energy, Quality and Control of the pool cue is very important.  We also recommend choosing a cue that offers a lifetime warranty against manufacturer defects including warpage. The important characteristic about English is not the amount of spin, but how easy it is to control the spin.  You need to control the amount of spin (English, Draw and Follow) so that you can position the cue ball where you need to for the next shot.   Viking cues are easy to control because they have an excellent shaft taper that is not too stiff nor too whippy.   We are continually impressed by the excellent playability of Viking cues.

2. Quality:

We are very concerned about the quality of the cues we sell.  For obvious reasons, we want our customers to be pleased with the products they receive.  When our customers are happy, we get referrals and repeat business.   Returns are inconvenient for everyone involved and certainly do not help the bottom line.   The quality of all components of Viking cues are simply excellent.  The quality control at the Viking factory is outstanding, so it is extremely rare that we receive a return of a Viking pool cue.

3. Custom Options:

History of Viking Pool Cues:

In the early 1960s, Viking Cue Mfg., Inc. founder Gordon Hart began making two-piece pool cues in the basement of his poolroom in Stoughton, Wisconsin. Mr. Hart traveled to various tournaments to sell his cues. In a short period of time, Viking cues became popular with many of the top players. As the 1960s were coming to a close, Gordon sold his poolroom and moved the cue business to its present location in Madison, Wisconsin. He expanded production capabilities and began selling cues throughout the United States and abroad.

The company grew steadily through the 1970s and 1980s. Then, in 1986 the major motion picture, The Color of Money, which starred Paul Newman and Tom Cruise, was released and created a boom in the billiard industry. Sales of Viking cues skyrocketed, and the company experienced phenomenal growth as a result.

As the 1980s came to a close, Mr. Hart began updating machinery and investing in state-of-the-art equipment to ensure a quality product. Promotional efforts increased with an extensive advertising and public relations program coordinated by Gordon's wife, Nancy, which helped make Viking a household name. Nancy was very active in the Billiard Congress of America in the 1990s, serving on its board of directors. Years earlier she served on the board of the Billiard & Bowling Institute of America, and was the first woman elected as president of that organization.

Viking is known for its generous support of various tournaments and organizations including the International Challenge of Champions, Men's Trick Shot Magic, Sudden Death 7-Ball, Skins Billiards Championship, Texas Hold'em Billiards Championship, Viking Nine Ball Tour, and National Wheelchair Pool players Association. Vikings efforts coupled with significant product quality enhancements, positioned the company as the leader in the cue making industry.

By the mid-1990s, the company hired a full sales staff to handle the needs of their constantly growing distributors and dealers throughout the world. In 1994, Mr. Hart was honored with the first-ever Lifetime Achievement Award from The American Cuemaker's Association. In 1995, Viking introduced a whole new line of cues. With this new line of cues came an entirely new way of cataloging the product. Large, almost to scale, photos depict the decorative features of the cues from the joint all the way down to the bumper. Every intricate detail is visible to the human eye.

With the introduction of the F Series, Viking is poised to continue its lead in the industry in quality, durability, and selection.

Together with state-of-the art equipment, technology, materials and skilled craftspeople, Viking will continue to be the top cue manufacturer in the industry. Our current catalog and the manner in which Viking cues are presented live up to the expectations of the millions of current and future owners of Viking cues. Watch for more great cues from Viking!

Cue Care and Maintenance Tips

Protecting your Viking Cue

When you're not using your Viking cue, put it in a protective case.  Take care to guard your Viking cue from extreme environmental conditions: heat and cold, humidity and dryness.  Do not store your Viking cue in your car!

Maintaining your Viking cue

Your Viking cue will likely end up with nicks and scratches from normal play.  We recommend the Q-Wiz shaft conditioner for use with Viking cues.  This and other cue care products are available at your nearest authorized Viking Cue dealer.

Leaning your Viking Cue

Avoid leaning your Viking cue against a wall or counter.  Any kind of side pressure such as from your cue sliding down a wall to the floor will leave your Viking cue vulnerable to breakage.  If you must lean your Viking cue, do so as close to the wall or counter as possible.  Better yet, lay your Viking cue on the table in front of the rack.  This will not only allow you to keep an eye on your Viking cue, but will also keep your opponent from breaking until you are ready.

Lastly, don't lend your Viking cue to anyone else.  No one will take care of your Viking cue the way you will.
